If you are new in the areaIf you have lived in Scarsdale for a while
and are interested in meeting new people, we invite you to join!
We are a social club established to provide support and friendship to all residents in our community. We have a wide range of activities to cater for all interests. Come along to one of our New Member Events and find out more.
Our club is a social group of about 100 families living in the Scarsdale area. Our members come from all over the world and are at all ages and stages of life. Some families have young babies, others have children who are entering the Scarsdale school system and some have children who have left home, and gone on to college or to pursue their careers.
Everyone is welcome, and the club offers friendship and support to all.
The club is comprised of a mix of "brand new", "new-ish" and "old" members. Some have been in Scarsdale for less than a year, some have been here for 2 or 3 years and others have been here longer. Many people choose to remain in the club which helped them settle in during those early days, weeks and months with the friends they made when they arrived. They continue to offer friendship and good company to newcomers and have a wealth of experience and knowledge to share.
The club is run by a group of enthusiastic volunteers via a committee. There is no prerequisite for becoming a member of the committee, just the passion and some time to volunteer. Elections take place each year as positions become vacant.
Everyone remembers being new and whatever activity you go to, you will meet people who are friendly, welcoming and helpful.
Our club is about extending a hand of friendship. Long time residents, many of whom came from abroad themselves, help newcomers navigate life in Scarsdale. We share advice around the common challenges of arriving somewhere new including finding out about local resouces.
When you become a member, you will be able to access the members only area of the website and have full access to register for all the myriad activities we offer. You can also join our popular, private FB group, where members share useful tips, ask questions, and seek recommendations.
Please contact our President or Membership Officer to find out about how you can meet us.
Moving is always stressful, regardless of whether it’s across the street or halfway around the world. Lynne’s move to Scarsdale came after numerous changes of address, so she was no stranger to dealing with a new house, school system, or even country. But connecting with people here was a bit of a challenge. A newcomers group might help her settle in, or so Lynne hoped, but the ones she explored were not quite on her wavelength. Finally she resolved to start her own club, one that would truly serve the needs of new residents for friendship, fun and acclimation to Scarsdale.
Before long her organization was up and running. Word went out through churches, realtors and the local newspaper and soon Lynne had recruited new friends Jan, Paulette, Debby and Chris. All had spent time abroad and were keenly aware of the challenges faced by foreigners in a strange land. Soon they were joined by newcomers from all over the world as well as the US. Everyone was welcome regardless of nationality.
Since its inception in 1999 by its five founders, Scarsdale New Residents Club has grown to include over 100 members and their families. Many of us have children in the local schools and we possess a range of ages and occupations, with interests as varied as food, tennis, reading, museums, walking and movies, etc. Mainly we just enjoy casual socializing and sharing tips on how to survive and thrive in Scarsdale. Our activities take place on average once a week, 10 months a year. Families are included in the membership; spouses and children join us for certain special events. In everything, participation is entirely voluntary and according to your time and interests.
Scarsdale is a community where many people, due to the nature of their work, might only stay a few years. Others are so busy that they barely even notice new neighbors, let alone have time to get acquainted. SNRC exists to help all of us, new and old, overcome the transience of modern life, make friends, and explore the many exciting resources of this area. The only requirement to join is residence here. Of course, we hope you are also friendly, fun and a bit adventurous!
Welcome to Scarsdale!
